It’s a question that I have been faced with many times, “Why do you want to attend USMA?” A vague response that often occurs to me is why not, then I venture back to the real world and it becomes apparent that not everyone else is as familiar and acquainted with the Academy as I am. So I decided that it would be important to make a list of all the reasons that made West Point important to me and why I am seeking a nomination. My ultimate goal is to have a career within the United States Army. The several aspects of education at USMA would engulf me as a whole and allow me to be a leader of character, so that I can lead our nation’s selfless soldiers successfully and get them home safe. I have no plan to stop striving for this goal in my life. Going straight to West Point from high school without a doubt is one of the “easier” routes to the academy but if I am unable to attain a nomination I plan to keep trying until I succeed. I am both motivated and determined to be a graduate of the prestigious United States Military Academy. This drive for success I believe will be useful and beneficial to the army because without the drive the goal often becomes blurry. Also motivation and determination are important in leading and succeeding. The challenges and rigors that I would experience at the Academy would both break me down and build me back up into the best person I can be. I think that it’s important for leaders in the army to always be at a personal best and lead with understanding of diversity. Understanding and embracing diversity is important in a team oriented environment and this is something I could bring to the Army and the Academy. The United States Military Academy has been my dream and my goal for as long as I can remember. Growing up a mere 45 minutes from the academy has allowed me to keep this dream alive by making visits and seeing it as part of local news. Now I am at the age where I have the chance to be part of the news and events of the academy I have grown up seeing and attending. The opportunities at West Point are endless and I want to be part of something greater than myself, something so selfless and extraordinary that those around me will feel a greater sense of pride and honor. I want to be part of the reason my country stays free. I want to be a cadet, a soldier, and a leader. There is no better place in the world to do it then at West Point.

i used to have that! i was born with it, then thanks to my mother... i had surgery on my eyes twice when i was in second grade. i wish i never had it done.... now ive got nystagmus when i close one eye. it sounds funny, but try to find someone who does "eye therapy" its sounds crazy, but if you find the right person, they can help you.
i went to a guy around where i live and he REALLY helped me cut down on my nystagmus (its when your eye shakes) and he helped me see 3D images- i couldnt before. he also said i shouldent of ever had the surgery beacause the problem could of been fixed with out it. well, i know it sounds crazy, but its worth a try - trust me.
Hey, just wondering how you are coming along so far...I would say that after looking at all you have accomplished thus far, if your application is complete then you should be getting your LOA any day now!!!
yah, i dont blame you at all! i am going to apply to usna as a back up too. it is cool that you live that close b/c you can go home on all the holidays, unlike living in missouri where it takes SO LONG to get back home! lol!!
LOL!! my dad was naval supply corps officer (lol, navy!!) and he supports me on pretty much what ever i want to do. i just wish we lived closer to usma like you do, so me and my famly could attend events too! how far do you live from annapolis??
