Howdy Adam,

Yeah, the whole prep school thing is a great opportunity. In short, if we maintain good grades at prep school (no D's), maintain 'good cadet' status and stay medically qualified we have a 99% chance of acceptance. There have only been a few guys I know of that were denied appointments after prep school, mainly for disciplinary reasons. It's rare though. And as a CGA Scholar, I do not have to reapply, receive a congressional nomination or pay application fees- it's a sweet deal. We're almost done with our first semester here at NMMI and then it's six months until Swab Summer.

Hey man
Thanks for the info- thats really cool that you get to do that. If you go to the prep school, does it guarantee you a spot at the academy once you finish it or do you have to reapply?

Hey man.

Basically, I applied to the CGA, the Naval Academy and the AFA and was not directly accepted to any. I was not congressionally nominated either, and I did not meet the basic test score requirements for the AFA. I always wanted to be a military officer, following in my family's footsteps, and whatever academy offered me I was willing to accept. I was disappointed that I was not directly accepted my first try, but attending the prep school was the best decision I could have made.

I'll tell you- if you are qualified but do not receive an appointment to your choice academy, you will probably get the prep school opportunity. As a CGA 'Scholar' I receive monthly stipends (~$400/month), my prep school year accounts for one active duty year (for earlier retirement) and I have met some really good, wholesome people. It's really going to be worth it sticking this thing out for the long haul. Should you or anyone else get a prep school opportunity, I suggest taking it. You won't regret it!

That's a little about me and why I chose CGA Prep School.

Hey Douglas
What made you decide to go to the prep school?

Howdy everyone. I graduated from HS in 2008 and currently attend CGA Prep School. Any questions, feel free to ask.
Good Luck.
