SMP with the GA Nat. Guard to North Georgia College and State University (one of the 6 SMC's). You get more pay than ROTC, same ROTC training, plus more oppertunities to go to schools like Airbourne. Also, you get O1E,2e,3e (respectively) pay until O-3.

You get to the same place, but it's more financially responcible to go SMP than ROTC.

What exactly is SMP?

Simultaneous Membership Program. Basically, you enlist with your respective National Guard. I'm choosing 11B (Infantry) as my MOS (Military Occupational Specialty). Then, you'll go to Basic Training and AIT, and be a National Guardsman. Due to time constraints, you'll enter whatever college in the Spring semester following your graduation (For Class of '09, you'll enter Spring of '10). You go to college like a normal ROTC cadet, enrolling in all yur Gen Ed Classes and stuff. You do your ROTC's...and the stipends and the scholarship money is all the same. You're non-deployable while in college. One weekend out of the month, and two weeks in the summer...you have to do Drill (which is just National Guard training. PT Tests, PT, drill, small unit tactics, etc).

But, you get paid to go to drill, you get the same financial benefits as ROTC, the outcome is the same, and in that lag time from after AIT until school starts...you have 9 weeks to do optional schools (I'm putting Airborne in my enlistment package, which is a 4 week school...and also doing "Hometown Recruiting" where they send you home for two weeks to help recruit at your school).

But you're commissioned in the Guard instead of the Army correct?

Negative. At the end of your college (or maybe between your Jr/Sr. Year...I'm a little hazy here) you can commission Guard, Reserve, or Active Duty Army. Your Branching selection would work the same as West Point, where is it competitive based on your success (or lack there of) in college. (GPA, LDAC, etc).

Airborne is 3 weeks.

Plus reception, I think. I mean, I'm no recruiter or anything...but. Two buddies of mine got back within this month, and they were down there for 4 weeks. I just assumed it was a week of reception, kinda like they have at the beginning of Basic. But again, I may be wrong.

I suppose so...It may be longer for people straight out of AIT due to sitting on your thumb for a week preparing for the grueling Airborne runs.

The course itself is three weeks. Ground, tower, jump.
